Try to imagine what it would be like if you started a new job but the managers had forgotten to send you to the orientation. Maybe you were hired for one job, while you thought you were interviewing for another. Everyone would assume you knew what to do. You would try to do the job you thought you were hired for, but it was the wrong job. Everyone would know your name and expect you to know theirs, but no one wore a nametag. What if you had a complex job that everyone assumed you knew how to do, but you had no employee manual? What if everyone spoke in a particular technical jargon that they took for granted you understood?
How would you feel? Would you understand why your coworkers got frustrated with you?
This is what it might be like for a child with AS in the classroom.
